And so the people have spoken. One thing I have noticed is that people have predicted the sky will fall in the next four years. I don’t understand why. Granted, foreign policy has been Bush’s weakest subject, but I fail to see the end of the world as we know it. I may be a little naive, but I think that Bush has learned his lesson. Iraq is a mess, but the absolute worst thing we can do is pull out. This would only create an enviroment of hostility in not only the muslim community, but would cause us to lose what little support we have from Europe. The war, though flawed, is a mute point.
In all honesty, I think that Bush’s economic policy would be a lot better than the one that Kerry would have implimented. During the debates, Kerry proposed raising the minimum wage to $7.00. This would be almost a 40% increase from the national average of $5.15. Such an increase would almost certainly knock out small businesses, the same ones that he is trying to save. It would also increase the flow of jobs overseas without a major increase in tarriffs that would border economic embargoes. There would also be a greater incentive for automation, and while it isn’t a bad thing in itself, it also reduces manpower necessary in manufacturing, therefore reducing jobs.
The votes are counted, and I’m not going to try and change minds, but just know that Kerry was not the savior the democrats were looking for. The campaign was flawed in that it wasn’t vote for Kerry, but vote against Bush. It took a negative turn from the start and never fully recovered. Lets just hope that there isn’t a huge scandal with Barack Obama and that he shows the kind of leadership in the Senate that he has in his campaign. The Illinois Republican’s folly might have more impact than just a Senate seat.

I agree I’d rather see Obama wait, but there are few options. Although economics would say that the best way to win is to move to the center, I would rather see true opposition from the Democrats, by moving to the Dean wing.
