12/24/03 08:18 PM: Dave’s Top Ten
It’s that time of the year again, the time for Dave’s top ten songs of 2003. Some people tend to do a top ten albums of 2003, which can either be more difficult, or less difficult, but I feel that this list is more fun to create—so deal with it.
Here and here are the previous top ten lists.
This year, you will note, contains a lot of “indie” music. Again, deal with it!
As such, in no particular order:
We Looked Like Giants by Death Cab for Cutie
Many say this is the best track off their Transatlanticism release, and they are right. This is a great track, up there among my favorites from this group.
Piazza, New York Catcher by Belle & Sebastian
I just love this song. It was a hard choice between this and “If She Wants Me” from their Dear Catastrophe Waitress album, but this came up on top.
Hey Ya! by OutKast
Best song of the year, hands down. ‘Nuff said.
A Punch Up at a Wedding, by Radiohead
I had to include something from Hail to the Thief. Some people loved the album, lots of people hated it. I thought it was decent, and this was one of the better tracks.
The District Sleeps Alone Tonight, by The Postal Service
This song has a special place in my heart, along with “Nothing Better,” both off their Give Up album.
Where is the Love?, by the Black Eyed Peas (Featuring Justin Timberlake)
Hurt, by Johnny Cash
A cover of the Nine Inch Nails song, but only Cash could bring this to life… right before he died.
In Da Club, by 50 Cent
Dude, it’s 50 cent. Best new artist?
Peacekeeper, by Fleetwood Mac
Sure, it sounds a bit like Paul Simon’s “Kodachrome”, but it’s still addictive, and a bit political.
Fallen, by Sarah McLachlan
Ah, she is back and in good form.
Comments are appreciated, and you can include your own top ten lists as well. I know I overlooked some artists, and I know I didn’t listen to everything. I still haven’t heard Rufus Wainwright’s new album, so that potentially could have had a spot here.
Close calls:
Nothing Better by The Postal Service
Step Into My Office Baby by Belle & Sebastian
If She Wants Me by Belle & Sebastian
Bring Me to Life, by Evanescence
Seven Nation Army, The White Stripes

I’ll post when I have the time. I’m back at the museum with holiday hours, so I’m pretty much wiped out when I get home. Sweet break for me.

Plus, it’s nominated for best song! But, then again, who cares about the Grammys.
