08/28/02 05:29 PM: First day of class
As the title explains, today was the first day of classes. However, as I believe I mentioned earlier I only had two classes, the first one starting at 2:15. This was nice, as it allowed me to sleep in and such. French was interesting, and I was relieved to hear the professor say the course is designed for people who know no french at all. Whew. What makes it even more interesting is that most of the “assignments” revolve around watching streaming video of these “French in Action” tapes over the ResNet. This is pretty hi-tech, huh. It even made their state-of-the-art Language Lab outdated. Go technology!
My English class consisted of going in, having a TA give me a syllabus, and then leaving. Not bad, huh. Unfortunately the class consists of four papers, and a lot of reading. Boo-urns to that.
Tomorrow I have to get up earlier though, as I have a 10:15 class. That would be my Interational Trade class. I am a little concerned as I believe that I will be maybe one of the only freshman in the class. I don’t suppose that’s a huge issue but we will see how it plays out. I also have my first Proseminar meeting tomorrow, and it’s all about upheaval in Africa. If that turns out to be just awful, I’m going to switch to one on the Environment and Politics. I figure before I switch though I will go once and give it a chance. Supposedly the professor who teaches it (The Africa one) is really good, so I will go and see how it is.
Other than that things have been going pretty well. The West Wing is on in about a half hour. The episode is one of many leading up to the contrived and predictable season finale, which was very disappointing even though you knew what was coming. Oh well, this episode was decent so I will watch it. It seems like all the SFS people (School of Foreign Service) like the show too. That’s good, anyone who likes The West Wing is a friend of mine.
