Good evening
I just returned home tonight from a meeting with the Chicago Independent Media Center. A friend of mine and I travelled up to the near north side of Chicago, to a place called the Casa Guatemala. At first, when approaching the location we didn’t know what to expect. However, upon entry we were very pleasantly surprised to find a group of people quite similar to us! There were 9 of us or so at the meeting to discuss producing a Independent Radio show covering local stories with international ties that would not ususally have coverage from the major media outlets. It was so refreshing to be able to discuss issues with people who were open minded, and did not just revert to ‘George Bush is my God” or “Bill Clinton is a Pimp.” Anyway, I really had a good time and I will definatly continue to help them out. And then there are the people who when I say “Independent Media”, they yell about socalism. Please I am sick of everyone equating left wing to socalist. None of the people I met tonight were overtly hardcore socialists or anarchists as the mainstream media likes to portay them as. The people who say all the protesters in Seattle were a bunch of crazy people are only reading about that through a media outlet that is owned by some large conglomerate or another. Right now I am not just spewing leftist propaganda, it is the truth. Think about it and you will realize that the corporations have control of the government through soft money and control of the media by ownership. Do they really need anymore help by adding free trade??
