10/16/03 07:22 AM: Holy Wow

Okay, so the wanted-poster was mentioned in USA Today. Can I please make it clear that this is a JOKE… I created it about 15 minutes after the end of the game. Of course I don’t actually blame everything from game six on the guy. It was a JOKE people. Sigh.

Comments made.

  1. It’s a beautiful Thursday morning! The Cubs choked away another postseason after having a commanding lead. I couldn’t be happier that the hex lives on. Now we’re just shooting for the century mark without a world series. The ultimate in futility! Way to go Cubs!

Cubs Lose! Cubs Lose! Cubs Lose!

  2. call it a “joke,” but it’s a bad joke, piling all this shit on the one poor guy trying to catch a foul ball. One Cub “fan” in USA Today saying Bartman “ought to be in a witness protection program.” Sober up, people!

  4. Last night (and the night before) I really wanted the Cubs to win because it would be about time. I now mock the Cubs and want them to be drawn and quartered. It’s PATHETIC to lose once the Marlins were so many games behind. I want Chicago to hear it again – PATHETIC. Kill Prior or whoever you want to kill, but leave poor schmuck Bartman alone. How weak is it to blame a sports nerd for the losses of your PATHETIC team? Stuff like would never turn the moral of any Yankees team. 8 runs in one inning – because Alou didn’t catch the ball? – the Cubs are pussies. PATHETIC. I’m a Yankees fan. You were not going to win the World Series anyway. Watch us spank the Smelly Sox tonight. Watch us gloat. Root for the Sox tonight and watch how your support makes you a loser again. We have won 28 (who’s counting) World Series games. The Cubs will never ever because they were mean to Sianis and his goat in 1945. Hahahahahahahaha. Losers. Loser city, too. Lincoln Park sucks. So does Wicker Park. Chicago is a fart … the windy city.

  5. Yeah I feel for ol’ Bartman and any of you idiots dumb enough to blame him for losing 4 games to the Fish! Like that guy Doug Kiersey! He’s a bigger idiot than any of you! He called Hartman an idiot. I’ll bet Kiersey was sitting on his fat butt at home! Or drunk on his butt! Being a Cubs fan is not the smartest idea in the world anyway…unless you have a fear of success. What on earth would you do if they actually won? Think about that! You had your chances…now it’ll be another ten years before you get this close again! Kiersey…you’re an idiot!

Cardinals Fan who actually felt bad for you Cubbies!

  6. Dave,

I read about the Bartman picture post in USA Today (as did about 50% of the average 2.5M daily readers). I applaud you for removing this picture from the site and for making a rebuttal statement. Some of the Cub fans need to get a serious grip on reality. The facts are that Moises Alou had less than a 25% chance of making the catch even if the stadium was empty. Additionally, there was a routine grounder that turned into a middle infield error. Reality is…....
“The Cubs will compete again for the title next year. Bill Robinson the Marlins hitting coach (former major leaguer) should be the #1 prospect for the Cubs next year.

  8. I am convinced that the Baseball God’s have a hex on the cubbies. Their destiny has been determined.

    Oct 16, 11:40 AM
  9. A pox and a hex on the Cubs for all eternity.

May all of their fans (who have proven that they were born to lose) be sodomized eternally in hell after their miserable deaths.

  10. This is all such a joke! I think your post was hilarious, and any person in their right mind would realize it was meant sarcastically. People read way too much into meaningless humor nowadays.
    Next year, cubbies, next year…

  11. Let me ask: How can an individual who WASN’T EVEN PLAYING in the game cost a team a win???

First of all, it’s not a certainty that Alou would have caught and held on to the ball anyway.

    In addition…

Did the fan walk Castillo and throw a wild pitch in the process, allowing Pierre to go to 3rd?

Did the fan give up the single to Rodriguez?

Did the fan boot the grounder at short hit by Cabrera?

Did the fan give up the double to Lee?

Did the fan give up the sac fly to Conine?

Did the fan give up the double off the wall to Mordecai?

DID THE FAN PLAY IN GAME #7????

The truth is, Dusty Baker, bitten by criticism that he pulled Ortiz too soon in game #6 last year, goes to the opposite extreme this year and leaves his starters in a little too long.

Let’s leave this poor guy alone and not contribute to his misery.

  12. Great site! News, fun and crap sure travels fast on the net, doesn’t it?

    Oct 16, 01:21 PM
  13. The fact is … If this fan would have let Alou catch the damn ball there would have been 2 outs, the Cubs would have had more momentum, and they would have likely won the game, advancing to the World Series. They weren’t meant to win. Only divine intervention could keep them out.

  14. In response to yay: You wonder why people hate New York? I wouldn’t after that display. Getting friends in this neck of the woods is tough when you insult 3 million people. Everyone has their teams, but don’t insult the cities. I won’t bring up how many times the Bulls massacred the Knicks back in the day. Just wondering too, what was the Yankees record against the Cubs and the Sox? Correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t seem to remember the Yankees winning a series against either team. I hope the Red Sox win just so you can be put back in your place.

  15. WOW! What a game! It was up and down back and forth! Hitting right from the start. Who would have thought that the Pitcher would have had a home run? The Cubs had their chances and to blame it all on Bartman is a big huge, sorelosing unsportsmanship thing to do. You have to give Pug Rodreguez (MVP) and the rest of the Texas Rangers (five in all) that play for the Marlins that they never would have gotten there if there were still Texas Rangers Fans. One thing I am thankful for is that the Texas Rangers Suck! But at least I am not a Cub fan. Red Sox and Bill buckner i 1986, what they did to him and what kind of fans they are shows you what goes around comes around. Beside, the Red Sox are in trouble tonight for what they did to Don Zimmer. Pedro better bring his best stuff. The Rocket will bring his best and Boston will be home watching the World Series with the Cubs crying about some dump curise or jinx. Get a grip, shut up and play!

  16. Your most wanted poster was hilarious, as it was meant to be. Asshat is a great term. Bartman will become a term to describe any stupid mistake form now on. As in … “You really pulled a Bartman that time”.

And the best reason not to be sad about last night’s game…. Cubs ticket prices won’t go up as high.

    GO CUBS

    GO RED SOX

    Oct 16, 02:10 PM
  17. Actually, now that I think about it. He pretty much was to blame. He’s a baseball coach. He should have known better. He should have given Alou room. Bah. Ugh, I’m just upset. And now the Red Sox lose. Great, a world series no one will care about.
