05/16/03 12:51 PM: Home (Continued)

Well, I’m still here at home. I was thinking of just bolting to Canada for a few days, but decided against that for now.

I’m not exactly sure how I managed to do this whole home thing for some 17 years before college started, it’s sort of amazing. Well, I suppose it wasn’t as boring back then because my friends were not all still off at college or in other places around the country or the world. Only a few people I know are back this early, so things are relatively quiet. Oh well, so it goes. At least it’s somewhat relaxing, I guess.

In other news, I bought the new release by The New Pornographers. They are a Canadian-based “supergroup” that took their name from a book calling rock music the “new pornography.” I first heard them a few years ago, after hearing Nick talk about them. Mass Romantic, their first release was very good, it had sort of a peppy brit-pop feel but not really. That continues with their latest album, Electric Version. I don’t intend to write a full review here, so instead go read the one at Pitchfork Media. I recommend it, it’s something different and it’s upbeat and nice.

I need to go see The Matrix Reloaded. That sounds like a way to occupy a part of Saturday. Strangely I haven’t been looking forward to it as much as I thought I would. Maybe it’s just the inner geek in me dying. Not that I had an inner geek to begin with. This is all just hypothetical.

At least it’s nice weather here, that’s a plus. Natural light is always a good thing.
