04/02/01 08:59 PM: I am rather tired tonight,
I am rather tired tonight, so I think I will make this brief. I had debated for a good part of the night with some family members about politics, but mainly the philosophy surrounding forms of government. What I don’t understand are the people who say Socialism won’t ever work because of “human nature.” I used to think this, as it had been put in my mind by teachers through the years when we talk about the failed Communism in the Soviet Union, etc, but I have changed my mind, and I don’t think we are by nature evil… Anyway, the people who say Socialism won’t work say people are too greedy, and only look out for themselves. Great, but these people at the same time think that for some reason free trade will somehow benefit people and not be expolited by the very same people they say would exploit a Socialist society. Anyway, enough philosophy for the night.
What didn’t make any headlines today in any national/state/local/whatever news source was that activists “occupied” the floor of the Pacific Stock Exchange in San Fransisco and demanded the text of the Free Trade Area of the Americas be released. You can see some good video clips over at the San Fransisco Independent Media Center. Specifically, one good Real Video clip can be found here.
Good night!
