12/18/01 10:47 PM: The Onion on the ABM treaty

I sure love The Onion.

Take for example the “poll” in this edition. For those of you who don’t read The Onion, in each issue they have a poll where they ask these fictional characters their opinion about a world issue. They pictures for the people are the same each time, but they are different “people” (names, occupations, etc). This week they asked what the people think of Bush pulling out of the ABM treaty. I love some of the responses.

“The ABM treaty was a noble but ultimately flawed idea that hindered our ability to bomb the fuck out of countries we don’t like.”

It’s reassuring to know that, after everything that’s happened in the past three months, there’s still irrefutable proof that Bush is a dick.”

“This shield will protect us from terrorists who steal radioactive industrial-waste materials and build ‘dirty bombs’ aimed at subways, bridges, and other public spaces, right? Phew.”

And finally,

“A missile-defense system is all the more vital now that we’ve pissed off Russia so bad.”

So today was a pretty lame day. I have to stop taking my medication because it looks like I’m having a reaction to it. I have these sores in my mouth now, and it is very painful. I have an appointment with my doctor tommorow to try and get this fix. When it rains, it pours, no?
