01/08/02 06:52 PM: In The News

WOW, school continues to be my least favorite activity. Since I missed about three weeks in December, I am still trying to catch up. Problem is, finals are next week. I have 3 psychology tests, 2 calculus tests, and 3 econ tests to make up. There is obviously not enough time to do this before finals. I’m going to talk to my counselor tomorrow to try and work something out. Ugh, it isn’t like I asked to be sick. On the upside however, I took one of these extra credit math tests and got 6/6, the first time I’ve ever gotten them all right… it made my day.

So what’s in the news? Well, it looks like Bush wants to resume underground nuclear weapon testing. In 1992, George H.W. Bush imposed a moratorium on testing, which was upheld by Clinton. However, the U.S. failed to ratify the 1999 Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty.

“They do not want to say they are going to resume testing,” one Energy Department official said yesterday. “They want the option to do so if they think they need it.”

Moving on, I learned from a friend in Econ today that Wendy’s founder Dave Thomas had died. My immediate reaction was one of denial, how could this national fast food figure really be gone? I had to verify it myself by going on the internet. I guess we won’t be seeing anymore of those wacky ads featuring Thomas. In fact, Wendy’s is mulling new ad ideas following the death of Thomas.

To conclude, check out the Search for Terrestrial Intellegence. I don’t think they’ve found any yet…
