05/06/01 08:00 PM: It is true though that
It is true though that as people work harder, everyone does benefit. Society has progressed since the 17th century, and we have been using capitalism the whole time. However, the example of the migrant farmer does make a good point. I don’t believe that any good can from the capitalist system unless the following are in place: Free access to education, free trade only with nations that are up to the correct standards. I will specify more of this later, when I figure it out. Anyway, people need to have equal access to education in order to have any chance of persuing a meaningful life in any society. Free trade is totally another issue I really don’t want to even think about now. Please don’t take this the wrong way I am not a hardcore capitalist or a hardcore socialist, I’m just pointing out what I’ve been finding during debates with people.
In other news, I heard that I won $150 in that essay contest I entered a while back. Someone else from my school won a trip to Washington D.C. Wow, I should enter more of these contests. Word to the Chicago Metro History Center.
