07/30/01 09:10 PM: Fancy dinner
Okay, my updates have been severely lacking in both frequency and content. I attribute this to general summer lethargy. Ah, summer, the time when our already meager attention spans shrink like a cotton shirt washed in hot water. Even my similes are degenerating. Just kidding, they never were any good.
The plan for tonight was for five of us to get all jazzed up (shirt and tie for the guys, dresses and such for the girls) and go out to eat at a fancy restaurant. Or something like that. The point was to dress up and go out. But two of said friends decided to ditch the other three of us. Another couldn’t go out anyway. Naturally, the last person didn’t want to go. So I ended up going out by myself (not dressed up). I went to a performance of the Syracuse Pops orchestra. Hey, it was free. It was at a really beautiful park. It looked so majestic as the sun was going down, with the red sky reflecting off the water. Plus the music was good, too. Nothing like some George Gershwin and Frank Sinatra. That was a great way to kill a couple hours alone. Otherwise I would have just been alone and at home. Talk about boring. Afterward I went to this Mexican restaurant called Alto Cinco. The “super vegan burrito” is amazing. When I first tried one last week, I thought it was quite good, but it didn’t blow me away. It didn’t seem quite worth five dollars. But I changed my mind tonight. I don’t know if they just made it better or if it was because it sat in my car for an hour and a half before I ate it, but it was worth at least five dollars. That was the best food I’ve had in a long time from a restaurant other than the all-vegan places in New York City and Chicago. And despite the simplicity of the burrito, it even gives the some of the fare at the all-vegan establishments a run for its money.
