06/01/01 09:17 PM: Nepal monarchy
Once again, monarchy has proven to be a great idea. Nepal’s very own Crown Prince Dipendra apparently had a little tiff with his mom, Queen Aiswarya, about his fiancĂ©. She didn’t like the girl he wanted to marry. So he killed his mom. And his dad (King Birenda). And six other immediate members of the royal family. What does this all mean? Hello, King Diprendra! There certainly is an upside to possessing a divine right. No pesky elections or public accountability! Then again, it doesn’t really matter since Nepal is a democracy, or something like that, and the monarch is only a figurehead. So, there is no real power, except the right to murder freely?
