This was originally a comment to Dave’s last post, but it got to be too long and so I decided to make it a post. I know that this breaks my one a month, but I was asked to write for the site because I’d bug Dave about not updating enough, and I have come under the same laziness. I’m going to change all that sooner or later. Anyway, my comment.
Howard Dean is not a Vice President. It is the worst political job in the US. Most of the work you do is behind the scenes and you rarely get credit for the work that you do. It seems the Democrats have lost their view in that they are only trying to win the election, not provide a viable platform on issues of which they can show that their leaders would be more adept at providing than Bush. What this and all elections should be about is providing leadership for the American people, and the end result should be strong leaders, not putting together a team that will get the most votes.
I know that this is a pipe dream, and that anyone that has taken any sort of American Government course will jump on me and say that this will never happen, but I still think that the Dems are going about the election the wrong way. Instead of the easy way out (anyone can criticize the President), give us good leaders. As much as Bush has done, I still think Kerry is too wishy-washy to lead the country. I think he snuck though the primaries without saying much of anything, and as of yet, I am still unimpressed.
This will be the first presidential election I will be able to vote in, so I want it to be an informed one. I would probably consider myself undecided, but leaning towards Bush. I haven’t been quite impressed with his first four years, but then again, Kerry seems to bring even less to the table. I encourage people to first learn about the candidates before going to register to vote. This seems backwards, but I would rather have informed people making informed decisions about our future than people who don’t think. I am not a huge fan of the Rock the Vote movement for this reason, because while it promotes a good thing, I do not necessarily want someone who votes because their TV tells them to.

but, given all that bush has done over the past four years, i don’t believe he has earned the chance for another term. he’s brought our standing around the world down, he has dismissed human rights, he has treaded on civil liberties, and has lost sight of all sorts of domestic problems to wage war abroad. while you can argue forever about iraq, he’s now doing a very wishy-washy job of planning a future for the country we invaded.
