07/16/05 01:46 PM: RIP Aaron O'Neal
This past Tuesday, a student at the University of Missouri-Columbia
fell victim to what was possibly a heat stroke while practicing for the
upcoming football season. The student was Aaron O’Neal, an
incoming sophomore and rising star at the university. Shortly
after his death, a local newspaper called the Columbia Tribune did a
story on the incident, and as it turned out, they had one of their
photographers at the field while the football players were
practicing. The photographer snapped 18 photos of Aaron during
practice, and all 18 photos were published on the newspaper’s
website. You can view the story and the pictures here:

As a journalist, I had mixed feelings about these photos being
published. From the one perspective, it’s great news coverage to
obtain these pictures, but also, seeing these photos can be very
painful for the loved ones of Aaron.
Where do we draw the line as journalists?
