U.S. Senator Paul Wellstone, Democrat from Minnesota, had died in a plane crash in Northern Minnesota.
His wife and daugther were also killed in the crash. Wellstone was one of the most liberal and outspoken members of the Senate.
Wellstone was one of my favorite Democratic senators, one look at his voting record will show you why. He was not afraid to vote for what he believed in, no matter what the political implications may be. He voted against the resolution on Iraq, even though he was in the midst of a very close re-election campaign.
Not only is this a tragic loss of life, but as much as we don’t like to say it, it also has huge political repercussions.
