02/15/02 08:56 PM: Science Olympiad

Today I had the pleasure of getting up at 6 AM for Science Olympiad regionals. My events this year were Scrambler, Physics Lab, and Polymer Detectives. Overall, the team did well, we placed 3rd. This means we will indeed be going to State in April at University of Illinois. This is good, because I think we might actually have a chance this year of going to Nationals. That would be quite awesome.

Unfortunately, this year I did not win any medals (Last year I won two). Physics Lab was quite a disaster, as it was on compound simple machines, and neither my partner nor I (Both of us are in AP Physics mind you) knew how to do any of the calculations (What is AMA and IMA??). Polymers went pretty well, we got 5th (One spot away from a medal), and considering I didn’t even start studying for that until last night, that isn’t bad. Various mechanical problems hindered the Scramblers performance.

Things, hopefully, will be better at State. We will rebuild the Scrambler and the Robot (For a different event), and if we could nail those two events (Along with learning about IMA and AMA for Physics Lab), our team could definitely have a shot.

When we weren’t competing today, a few friends and I basically sat around and played cards. Yeah, either Gin or …......... Old Maid. Yeah… Old Maid. It was hilarious actually, :::stupid Old Maid:::, and a good time was had by all. Oh, and to please our friend Nick, yes, we did play a game of good old ERS.

Something else I have noticed, getting up at 6 AM makes me sleepy at 11 PM.
