06/29/01 04:41 PM: Milosevic

So Milosevic has been taken to The Hague—second best name for a city, behind Half.com, Oregon—to stand trial for crimes against humanity and all that before the international tribunal thingy. This would seem to be a double-edged sword, both good and bad. On the one hand, it is good, since Milosevic will probably get what he has coming. You don’t just orchestrate numerous systematic murders and expect to get away with it. On the other hand, I can’t shake the feeling that Serbia/Yugoslavia/whatever was coerced into this action by other powers threatening to withhold aid and other such things. Back when Kostunica was elected, he specifically said that he would not turn Milosevic over—he would be dealt with through Yugoslavian channels. So the overall end will probably be good, though the means may have been slightly devious.
