06/30/03 04:31 PM: Summer Days
I spent part of the afternoon today listening to some of my dad’s old records. By old, I don’t exactly mean ancient, more like from the 70’s and 80’s. Eric Clapton live. Pink Floyd. Culture Club. Wait, no, not Culture Club. In any case, I listened to music while reading more of Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. It’s becoming a slow read. I had started it before, a year or so ago and abandoned it. I want to finish it this time, regardless of how long it takes.
An unrelated aside, I’ve occasionally been thinking about the future. I only have three more years of college, and then it’s time for the real world. Well, of course, there might be graduate school or law school or something like that, but the same idea remains. So, I think about all the different things I’ve at one point wanted to do. When I was very little, I think I wanted to be a railroad engineer or some sort. I don’t recall ever wanting to be a fireman or a policeman, but I did want to be a spy. Or an FBI agent. Then I wanted to be a photographer or a paleontologist. These might not be in the right order. For a while I figured I’d end up doing something with computers, but then I took AP Computer Science and realized I did not want to do that. Then I wanted to be a journalist, then a politician, a CIA agent again, and now I have no idea at all.
Journalism keeps popping up. I often pretend to be a writer, whether here on the internet, at the newspaper I work for, or just on a notepad when I am bored. I really don’t feel like a writer though, so I don’t know if this is really for me. Same thing with photography. I do photo for the newspaper, as well as amateur photography, but I don’t yet feel like a photgrapher. Maybe these things take time.
Oh, and as you’ve noticed, I’ve updated the header photo. Some people seem to like it, others call it freakishly weird. I’m not sure what makes it so weird, other than perhaps the angle. I like it, though. I wish the wind had been blowing for the flags, but perhaps another day. My photos from Friday’s Apple Store opening won’t be back until next week, because of the holiday or something. That’s annoying. I need instant gratification. Or at least significantly less delayed gratification.
