07/02/03 05:22 PM: Summer in the City
I went to the city today, not for any particular reason, but just to be in the city. I had forgotten how much I enjoy just spending time walking around with no specific destination or schedule. I took along my camera, and began working on this.
For me, just being in the city gives me time to think. While for many that probably doesn’t make much sense—for me, being lost in the crowd of people lets me just be myself. I’m not sure what that really means, or how to explain it, but that’s the feeling I get. This isn’t to say I don’t enjoy going to the city with other people, I do, but this is different.
There are certain places in the city where the beauty and magnificence of the buildings and the scenery completely blows me away. It reminds me that even with all of the awful things that happen in this world, there is still beauty and the drive of mankind to create. These things give me hope.
Hope. Inspiration. These things can often be hard to find. In a world where bad things happen to good people far too often, it’s easy to become cynical and pessimistic. But then you come across things that truly inspire you. You come across people who make you want to become a better person. The people who make you look inside yourself, and find who you really are—and who you want to become.
If it wasn’t for these people, life wouldn’t much be worth living. I’d like to think that one day I’ll be able to become one of these people, but in the meantime I’m just trying to hold on to the precious few that are in my life.

By the way, on your photos page, the first picture still has a link to itself, which I still find annoying.
