05/28/01 07:03 PM: WWII Memorial

The Congress is intent on ruining the design of Washington DC.

They passed a bill, that says all plans and design are final for the World War II monument at the Rainbow Pool site. What this means is, a large World War II monument will be built between the Washington Monument and the Reflecting Pool. This monument includes two four story arches and fifty-four columns. I am not saying the World War II veterans should not have a monument, but it should not destroy the vistas of the Mall. This will be built where famous protests have occurred, built on the spot where Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his “I have a dream speech.” What are these people thinking? There are plenty of other places to build a monument, and we don’t have to destroy the Mall.

What really is bad, Congress’s new law, which Bush signed into law, makes it so no one can sue to stop the construction. Go to Washington while you can to see the city the way it was meant to be seen before they destroy it.

Oh, I saw Pearl Harbor today, while the critics have panned it, I thought it was good. It didn’t seem like it was 3 hours long. More on this later though.
