The Question of Gun Control
I’m so sick and tired of these people saying that they will never register their guns, never license them, and always purchase them illegally because they are exercising their god given Constitutional rights. I tried to argue with them on the MSNBC opinion board that the only logical argument for having a gun would be for hunting, shooting competitions, or home defense. Home defense I feel is a stretch but I’ll cede that to them. As far as the argument of protecting against a tyranically goverment, my reply to that is this:
“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
I don’t see how you read that as meaning guarding against a tyranically government.
The way the founders set up the country were done to prevent what you are fearing. Do you really believe that some tyranical dictator would be able to take over the country? What about the armed forces? Do you think they are just a bunch of cowards who would go along with this “dictator” and execute his orders? Come on now! And if you do believe that, then you think very little of our country, and of the Constitution as a whole. Our entire system of government was built to resist such a problem. I don’t see how you equate having state militias with individuals having machine guns.
Too many people are dying inadvertantly from guns, due to accidental shootings, or examples such as the school shootings. Something has to be done. I don’t have all the answers but I do know we can’t just have 50,000 people dying and say “Oh well it’s worth it so I can have my gun.”
