02/11/02 10:37 PM: Tomorrow Comes Today

So, Tuesday is the last day of a much needed four day weekend. However, I have managed once again to put off all the studying and work I needed to do, so tomorrow is crunch time or something like that.

This Thursday (Valentine’s Day), I get to go to the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago for an informational type thing for schools involved in this year’s Fed Challenge competition. That might be fun, I really don’t know yet. I’m a little worried about Science Olympiad, of which the regional competiton is on Saturday. I’m not sure if I will be able to go, because we have a shortened week and I don’t know if I will have time to finish the very last of my makeup work before some silly deadline. If I don’t have it done before some day then I can’t compete. Oh well.

Someone I know complained about the quoting of the Transcendentalists on the front page, while others used them on their own page. That’s the way it goes, I suppose, but I happen to agree with some of the things Emerson and Thoreau wrote. I stress some, because I don’t adopt everything. One of my friends from school asked our English teacher why we had to study Thoreau, because his philosophy was “wrong” and we shouldn’t waste our time on it. I disagree, on two accords, first philosophy cannot be wrong, you may disagree, but many probabally think Objectivism is wrong as well (I don’t!), but I think we should at least touch on it because it has been somewhat significant. While you may not like Walden, it still is of literary significance.

Anyway, I’m trying to piece together my own philosophy, and I am doing this mainly by gathering quotes and thoughts by prior philosophers that mesh with what I believe. That’s the main reason behind yesterday’s quote section. Expect to see something similar in the future again.
