03/05/01 10:12 AM: Tunnels under Washington? A secret

Tunnels under Washington? A secret tunnel under the Russian (Soviet at the time it was built, but I’ll refer to it as Russian for the sake of simplicity) Embassy in Washington, used for spying on the Russians, was uncovered by none other than an FBI agent who was in reality a spy for Russia. How’s that for irony? I can’t help but laugh. But, taking a deeper look at the situation, one has to be disappointed by the fact that the U.S. government still thinks it’s in a James Bond movie. Or maybe the sad part is that we are in a James Bond movie. Wouldn’t it be nice if governments spent more time talking instead of trying to eavesdrop on one another? Forget the bugs, pick up a phone. And maybe we could have diplomats instead of spies. Ah, it’s nice to have ideals. . . .
