Well

I agree that the major factor in Al Gore’s loss was in fact Al Gore. I mean, come on, the incumbant Vice President, during a period of prosperity and peace, can only narrowly beat a previously unknown bumbling governor from Texas? Please, Al, you had everything going for you. How could you have lost?

That beside the point, I think we should look at a way to standardize the Presidental Elections, making it at least so we have unified set of standards for each state. I don’t doubt for a second that the mistakes made in Florida were made around the country. But because of our Electoral System, it all came down to that one state. Which does demonstrate some good for the Electoral College, I mean if it didn’t exist there would have been calls for recounts across the nation. That is one reason why I wrote to my Democratic Senator Dick Durbin and asked him to not support removing the electoral college.

Anyway, we need election reform, bad, along with campaign fiance reform. But the numbers are still there, and while there are many what-ifs, I think we can say safely say there was no incredible mandate for Bush, and no mandate for extereme changes in the government as the GOP suggests. They are just wrong.
