Word to Friday night posts, they prove just how interesting of a life I live.

A few things on the agenda for this post, namely an exciting romp in History class, and the new Radiohead album.

So, in order to understand the history class adventure, you will need to understand this class. Basically, it consists of a professor narrating PowerPoint™ presentations about regions of the world in no particular order (neither regionally or chronologically). On Fridays, we supposedly have discussion sections. However, for the past month or so we didn’t have them while we worked on our “long papers.” In any case, said discussion sections are either led by the professor or the TA, who I must say is quite alarmingly strange.

In any case, the point here is that nothing really gets done in this clase. It’s a real waste of time, generally. I mean, he gives us the print-outs of the PowerPoint presentations, and the only commentary he seems to add to the discussion are random references to his seven year-old who apparantly “hacked the protected disk.”

So, begin today’s class. The professor, apparantly alarmed at the lack of attendence to his lectures began the process of passing around a “sign-in sheet.” This, of course, for a class where attendence isn’t mandatory, but anyway, I digress. So, today, we are having a 70 person discussion section because the professor isn’t available. My roommate and I then come up with a plan, we will sign the sign-in sheet, and then bolt for the door. We arrived early, sat down in the front row near the door, and signed in. The TA then began to read the book aloud, which is a wonderful use of our time. It became rather clear that he really had no idea what was going on, and from the questions being asked, no one else really did either. So, when he was distracted and answering a question, my roommate quietly got up and ran out. About 30 seconds later, when he was answering a question from a girl on the other side of the room, I bolted as well. It was classic. Later, someone sitting in the back would remark to my roommate that nobody noticed and it was the funniest thing he had seen in a while.

So what did we do after bolting out of the class? Well, we went up to the second floor of the building, and sat on a bench reading the book we were supposed to have read for the discussion section. I guess we felt guilty, or we just wanted to finish the reading since we have to do paper on it for next week. Either way, we finished the book so I consider it a better use of time than listening to the TA ramble on about his “pimp Turkish silk shirt” or some such.

On to the second front, the new Radiohead album. Supposedly what has been leaked on the internet is a “rough” version, which has not been polished in the studio. In any case, the album, Hail to the Thief, is, as following in the tradition of Radiohead, amazing. If this is unpolished, then I can only imagine the final version. I shall hope to also see a tour, as that would be wonderful as well. It’s been almost 2 years since I’ve seen Radiohead in concert now, and I need to get my fix again.

So what else is new here? Well, elections for the new board of The Voice are next weekend. That should be an interesting affair. This week will be the last production week with the current board, and as I told my section editor, it will be quite emotional! I don’t know if I can deal with it… well of course I can, and in any case, I just need to get better at harassing people to write pieces. Next year, most of the current staff will be gone, either abroad or graduated . Alas I remember the same thing from the high school radio scene. But, I think overall things will be alright. Just different.

Well, that about sums it up for tonight, hasta luego.
