05/06/01 10:54 AM: You know, it’s really hard
You know, it’s really hard to try and compare Socialism v. Capitalism. I’ve been reading some about Socialism and Communism, and there seems to be division about freedom v. equality. Marx apparantly did not want a society where you have to sacrifice freedom for equality. Trust me, I’m no expert here, so if that’s wrong, then it is.
Anyway, basically, Socialism depends on people working for the benefit of society as a whole, whereas in capitalism, people work for the benefit of themselves (and family I suppose). We complain today about the huge corporations with all of the greedy owners and operators, (i.e. President Bush), but what makes us think that there would not be people like this in a Socialist society? Basically, every society has its flaws.
I believe that to work toward whatever the “ideal” society is, we cannot focus soely on “left” or “right” or capitalism or communism, and that compromise can be made.
Anyway, I have to go do a lab for Physics and do some Calculus and then study for AP tests, so have a good Sunday everyone.
